EMS Parent Group
Tuesday, October 10, 2006
A regular meeting of the East Middle School Parent Group was called to order by President Jane Jones in the Media Center. Those in attendance were: Lori Heiden, Suzanne Romero, Lori Schneider, Sue Reynolds, Jane Jones, Dorothy Janzen, DJ Holmes, Angela Beauford, Pam Shapiro, Ken Sanders, and Betty Steinke.
Minutes from the September meeting were read and approved as submitted.
Principal’s Report—Meap testing started at 7:30 this morning. Decided not to provide snacks. Skating party was a success. Mrs. Iatrou and students are painting tiles for the Peace Project. Will be using hues of blue and yellow. Tiles will be displayed on the wall across from the office. Financially, we are halfway there. All tiles will be painted by Friday. Discussed purchasing a tile for the Parent Group. Action: Angela Beauford made a motion that EMS Parent Group donates $200 for the Peace Project. Dorothy Janzen seconded. Pam Shapiro will ask Mrs. Iatrou for one personal tile for the Parent Group. The eighth grade girl’s basketball team is doing well. Only lost one game. Nick Mellon received a medal at the Oakland County Cross Country Meet held at Kensington Park last Friday. Football game against Power tomorrow at East. Meap testing will be finished on October 20th. October 24th is Picture retake day. No school on Friday, October 27th. Eighth grade Fall Collage (Encore, band, orchestra, and choir) will be held on October 25th. Conferences are November 14th and 16th.
Vice President’s Report—Angela Beauford reported that $240 was made on concessions at the school dance. There were a lot of parent volunteers and a lot of food donations. Next dance is December 12th. after school. There is a meeting regarding inclusive education at Ford Community and Performing Arts in Dearborn on Tuesday October 24th.
Treasurer’s Report—DJ Holmes is checking into insurance to see if we can get it as a Parent Group since we are no longer a PTA. Insurance is due to renew in November. Our PTA checking account is closed and $1044.13 has been transferred to a new account. Suzanne Romero volunteered to audit the books. Action: We need three people to look at our bylaws and make revisions. DJ wrote a check for $200 for the “Peace Project†at today’s meeting.
President’s Report—Jane Jones needs a parent to represent East at the PTA Council. Action: Please see Jane if you are interested in volunteering for the position of PTA Council Rep. June 8th is the Eighth Grade Cedar Point Trip. Teachers are willing to support the trip but due to the change in scheduling, cannot organize it. Debbie Erickson has volunteered to organize the trip. Action: If you would like to help organize or volunteer to chaperone the Eighth Grade Cedar Point trip, please contact Jane Jones or Debbie Erickson.
Next meeting is Thursday, November 9th at 7:00pm.
