After a man was robbed at knifepoint in Downtown Tustin Friday morning, local school administrators took caution. Pine River Schools in Osceola County put their schools on lockdown just after eleven this morning.

Positions had been scaled back or cut from '08-09 budget. Ten staff assignments for Suttons Bay Public School were made last week by the district Board of Education.

Students in all Eaton Rapids area schools - including the Eaton Rapids Public Schools, Island City Academy and St. Peter Catholic School - returned to classes Tuesday, Sept. 2. While temperatures were in the 90s, most students, staff and parents were "calm, cool and collected."

The Michigan Education Association, the state's largest teachers union, will make their sixth stop in a series of hearings tonight in Traverse City, seeking input on how to prevent high school dropouts. They plan to share their findings with legislators.

MIDLAND -- The Midland Board of Education has named two new principals for Midland area elementary schools. Greg Matheson is principal at Eastlawn elementary school replacing Jeff Hall. Bridget Hockemeyer replaces Matheson as principal at Chippewassee elementary school.

Several Macomb Township schools were dismissed and the area is under a boil water alert due to a water main break on 24 Mile and Broughton roads. Seneca Middle School and Iroquois Middle School have cancelled their afternoon activities as well.

LAPEER COUNTY -- Eighty percent of Michigan public schools, and all Lapeer County school districts, made Adequate Yearly Progress in English and mathematics despite an increase in goals.
